Gold Coast And Northern Rivers Region Awards Night.

The QLD Chapter had the second 2022 Regional Awards event on Friday, 13th of May for Gold Coast and Northern Rivers Region in Surfers Paradise. All entries were of notable high quality.  We were pleased to see projects nominated containing products and solutions by Caribou including Norfolk Apartments at Burleigh, and the project that took out the top prize on the night, Banksia at Casuarina, by Aphora Architecture.  Congratulations to all the entrants.

Casambi Electric Curtains / Blind / Roller Shutter Actuator

The Casambi bluetooth device offers wireless control of electric curtains, blinds, roller shutters, raffstores, awnings, and even garage doors.

The shape of the flush-mounted housing allows installation in walls, the ceiling, a cavity (with a junction box) or inside switch boxes.

Control your wall treatments easily and wirelessly through the Casambi APP, or via a wireless (battery powered) wall switch for that traditional feel of operation.

Speak to a Caribou lighting consultant to learn more or to discover how Casambi Bluetooth Mesh can be integrated into your next project.

Caribou Lighting Headquarters, Meadowbrook

The new headquarters of CARIBOU LIGHTING is positioned strategically between Brisbane and the Gold Coast (our two largest markets) in the suburb of Meadowbrook.  Opened in 2020 during the turbulent times of a global pandemic.  The company was busting at the seams at our previous premises at Murarrie.  With a growing business, it made sense to make the move then and take advantage of the available facilities in the area.

With over 1000sqm of space, it provided Caribou with a unique opportunity to create a purpose built facility designed to create efficiencies and enjoyment for the Staff and Visitors.

Caribou is a leader in our market for Architectural Lighting and has the largest local stockholding of architectural lighting to ensure timely delivery and last minute requirements.

The back of the premises includes a 600sqm fabrication facility where Caribou manufactures custom linear LED systems of all shapes and sizes, along with many other bespoke luminaires.

Inside we have an architectural lighting showroom and meeting room to accommodate client meetings and presentations.  We welcome you to visit anytime.

You can book a LIGHTING CONSULTATION with a member of our team.  Come and enjoy a coffee and a tour of our showroom and production facility.

We hope to see you soon.

Beechmont Chalet Tour with Georgie Stevenson

Whether it’s occasionally or constantly, unplugging from the commotion of our busy lives is a necessary mission to undertake. We often seek higher ground, where the air is fresher, and the beauty is unmatched.
When Georgie Stevenson reached out to Caribou in regards to the Beechmont Chalet project, we jumped at the opportunity. Georgie is a lawyer turned entrepreneur, co-founder of Naked Harvest Supplements and a social media personality. She had a vision for the Beechmont Chalet and has reimagined the cottage into a picturesque Airbnb with spectacular views over the Gold Coast hinterland. Georgie and her partner Tim have created a harmonious balance between humble quirks of mountain living and contemporary luxury.
Throughout the project we worked closely with Georgie to create a unique design and lighting schedule. The outcome is a testimony to Georgie and the great design team who we worked alongside for this project.
We now have the opportunity to showcase the revitalisation of this once humble cottage with a walk through with Georgie Stevenson.

What’s the Difference between Constant Current & Constant Voltage?

There are plenty of factors to look at when choosing the one that works best for you.

One important choice is that of choosing a constant current LED driver versus a constant voltage LED driver. Now, it’s known that LED drivers are considered constant current devices, so why do manufacturers offer constant voltage drivers for LEDs as well? How can we tell the difference between these two?

Constant current and Constant voltage drivers are both viable options for a power supply for LED light sources, what differs is the way in which they deliver the power. LED drivers are the driving force that provides and regulates the necessary power to make sure the LEDs operate in a safe and consistent manner. Understanding the difference between the two types can:

  • Aid in properly powering LEDs
  • Avoid serious damages to your LED investment

Constant current LED drivers are designed for a designated range of output voltages and a fixed output current (mA). LEDs that are rated to operate on a constant current driver require a designated supply of current usually specified in milliamps (mA) or amps (A). These drivers vary the voltage along an electronic circuit which allows current to remain constant throughout the LED system. Higher current ratings do make the LED brighter, but if not regulated, the LED will draw more current than it is rated for.  A constant current driver is the best way to drive high power LEDs as it maintains a consistent brightness across all LEDs in-series.

Constant voltage drivers on the other hand are designed for a single direct current (DC) output voltage. Most common constant voltage drivers (or Power Supplies) are 12VDC or 24VDC. An LED light that is rated for constant voltage usually specifies the amount of input voltage it needs to operate correctly.

A constant voltage power supply receives standard line voltage (230VAC).

Constant Voltage Drivers switch this alternating current voltage (VAC) to a low direct current voltage (VDC). The driver will always maintain a constant voltage no matter what kind of current load is put on it.

Say hello to VORTEX ZOOM

Vortex Zoom is an extension to the standard Vortex spot light series, featuring a patented mechanism to focus adjust the beam spread of the spot light.  Ranging from 20 degrees through to 60 degrees whilst maintaining an excellent light output through the quality and high efficacy CoB chip inside. This versatillity as a standard feature makes this spot light an excellent choice for designers when specifying track & spot lights for the home, retail and gallery spaces. Not to mention Vortex is one good looking fitting.

Vortex Zoom would be a very complementing spot light with our other artwork track lights, the GYRE.

Available with a single or three circuit track adaptor and in white or black finishes.

DIM to WARM LED Strip for Caribou Razor LED Profiles (3000K > 1800K)

The Caribou DIM to WARM flexible LED is a brand new product to the Caribou Lighting stable and is specifically designed for use in our RAZOR extruded LED profiles.

Dim-to-Warm LED strip smoothly mimics the dimming curve of an incandescent lamp as it is dimmed. At full brightness, the LED strip has a CCT of 3000K.  As the strip is dimmed, the color changes to a warmer tone, reaching as low as a CCT of 1800K creating a warm and romantic space to enjoy.

The LED can be dimmed with conventional Phase Cut (Triac) dimmers.  However, options include DALI and Bluetooth (Wireless).

Contact Caribou to request a demonstration of this product.

What makes RAZOR LED Profiles the preferred choice for designers?

When Bianca from SquareDesigns Corporate was finalising the selections for her new project, she said “one of the benefits Caribou has in the market is that no other supplier could assure her of supply of full 5M lengths of linear profile in one continuous run, as it was imperative not to have any visible joins with the pendant”.  Our RAZOR MAX 4 linear pendant system can do just that.  In fact, most of our linear profiles are available in full lengths up to 5M long, including RAZOR SUPER MAX and our RAZOR MINI series.
Just another reason why our customers make Caribou their preferred architectural lighting supplier.
Bianca also applauded our efforts with launching our new Website (understanding the time and work involved to do so) and how user friendly it is to work with.
Thanks for the positive feedback, Bianca.  We love working with you and your wonderful projects.
