PROJECT SPOTLIGHT Responding to the housing crisi

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT

Responding to the housing crisis, this project sensitively densifies an inner-city Brisbane site with character housing using a “Missing Middle Housing” strategy. An 810sqm block, previously occupied by a single postwar home, now features a street-front detached house and three attached homes at the rear, respecting the existing scale.
Concealed basement parking and storage prioritize a human-centric ground plane design, featuring private and communal landscaped open spaces integrated between buildings.

A key objective was creating a universally accessible, smaller detached home for the client at the street front, enabling her to remain in her community. This home includes upper-level spaces for family, guests, or carers.
The rear homes are accessed via a “semi-private” central courtyard, fostering neighborly interaction and connected to the street by a covered link. Private balconies overlook individual courtyards adjoining the central space, balancing privacy with casual connection. A shared rear garden offers a larger communal landscape.

Layered courtyards maximize natural light and ventilation within the homes. Internal atriums enhance passive design by shortening building depth for cross-ventilation and daylighting, while also acting as light wells and thermal chimneys. Sustainable features include an insulated and sealed façade, solar panels, EV chargers, rainwater collection/irrigation, and low-water landscaping.

Materials were selected for their connection to both regional architecture & the client’s heritage values. This combination resulted in a palette of robust & tactile finishes that includes timber frames, metal wall & roof sheeting, and stucco finishes to masonry & concrete elements.

A stunning, curvaceous architectural form to ignite interest and desire upon first impression, the exquisite appearance, meticulous detail and accompanying landscape offer but a glimpse into the luxurious interiors and swoon-worthy outdoor living spaces of this precision-built residence. Atop a ridgeline and capturing incredibly breathtaking city skyline panoramas, this ultra-efficient abode has had the lighting designed and supplied by Caribou both inside and out. Featuring KNEE DEEP down lights, RAZOR linear LED systems and custom pendants including our OCHRE and VERMONT RINGS.

Featuring three levels of innovative design featuring collaboration hubs, a central marketplace, and interconnecting staircases. Caribou produced and delivered the CUSTOM feature suspended lighting system over the collaboration hub.

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT

As captivating as it is contemporary, this tri-level showstopper epitomises unrivalled living and entertaining. Nestled harmoniously into Burleigh Hill and elevated to capture sweeping views, this amazing home designed by Tim Stewart Architects is every inch an architectural marvel.

Modern comfort continues across the four spacious bedrooms and three exquisitely finished bathrooms. A luxe master suite is a stunning sanctuary, distinguished by a designer dressing room, day-spa-worthy ensuite and wall of glazing inviting in soft sunshine.

Caribou worked closely with the design team at TSA and the builder (James Anthony Constructions) to deliver the architectural lighting for this beautiful home.

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT

A blend of Byron Bay simplicity with urban designer edge, this prestigious Aphora Architecture collaboration is Brisbane’s most inspired new residence. Tailored perfectly to downsizers and older families seeking a luxurious inner-city lifestyle, without compromising on a scale of space and privacy they’ve grown accustomed to.

‘Cross Street’ is a celebration of its blue-chip surrounds, while paying homage to the architect’s relaxed coastal origins. Raw natural materials are showcased to their finest, across an intelligent tiered design serviced by an internal lift, to create an experience rather than simply delivering another high-end property.

Three styles of superior quality timber – Abodo, Tasmanian oak and New Guinea rosewood – form the foundation of the exterior and beautifully dress the interior. Their warmth contrasts with feature brick, Victorian Bamstone bluestone crazy paving, polished concrete flooring and fluted glass.

Caribou worked closely with Aphora to cultivate the architectural lighting for the homes. Delivering custom lighting solutions using the core materials of Tasmanian Oak and Stainless Steel. You’ll find these materials represented through the Ochre pendant and the Sneaky surface mounted can lights.
